Code Compliance
July 23rd, 2008 by whnaDecrease In Signs
Thanks to the consideration of you and your neighbors, the number of improperly placed signs in the neighborhood have decreased a whopping 75% since last print! For those who inquired, I recently confirmed that state legislature overrides city regulations related to political signs, which can be placed in yards earlier than the 30-days-prior-to-election rule. Political, or any signage, should be placed on the homeowner’s property and not in the parkway, on utility poles, or other city property.
Satellite Dishes
Though not yet invented in the early 1900’s when our homes were being built, satellite broadcasting has become quite popular in the modern day. However, many neighborhoods and apartment communities strictly prohibit the installation of dishes. For Winnetka Heights residents, a Certificate Of Appropriateness (CA) should be submitted prior to installation and the only requirement is that it be installed on the back half of the structure for interior lots, or the inside quarter of the structure for corner lots. This will hide the visibility of the dish from the street and help further preserve the architectural integrity of the historical district.
Security Bars
If you wish to install security bars on the windows for added security, they should to be placed on the inside of the home or building so as not to distract from the architecture of the window.
Canine Companions and Responsibility
Along with the companionship that our dogs bring, comes responsibility for their health and well-being. Make sure that they receive the recommended vaccinations and are registered with the city. For their protection, as well as other animals and humans, too, our canine friend should be walked on a leash. Don’t forget to “curb your dog” by picking up the poop! These are city ordinances as well as being respectful of your neighbor’s property.
Sanitation
Monthly heavy trash pick up will be the last week of each month. Initial curb placement is Thursday of the week prior to pick up.
Watering Restrictions End September 30th
The Dallas Water Restrictions continues to be in effect until Sep. 30. Sprinkler systems should be used before 10 AM or after 6 PM. Handheld hose or soaker hose may be used at any time provided there is no run-off on sidewalks, driveways or streets. No watering during precipitation. Violators could face fines of $250.00 to $2000.00 per incident.
