Annual Membership Meeting – June 7th

Our annual membership meeting is coming up on June 7th at 7 PM at Turner House.  This is the meeting where we elect new officers and approve any changes to our bylaws.  So we would love to see you there.
We will also be presenting amendments / revisions to our bylaws – including those presented by the Finance Committee.  Thanks to that group for all of the hard work that they have done this year.  If you have suggestions for bylaw amendments or additions, please send them to Michele Colbert at vicepresident@winnetkaheights.org.

Winnetka Winos Summer Tasting

Saturday, June 24
Meet and greet begins at 7 p.m. and the official tasting starts promptly at 7:30 p.m.

Our summer tasting theme is “Your Favorite Porch Wine.” Bring a bottle of your favorite porch wine for sitting and sipping on a warm summer night — okay, hot summer night.  We’ll be inside with air conditioning, but dress for summer.

Here’s the skinny: Each individual, couple or pair of neighbors brings a bottle of wine and a bite to eat that complements their wine. Bring whatever wine and food you like. Have fun with it!

Remember these tips:
* Bring enough food for at least 24 tastes
* If your food requires a utensil, plate, fork, spoon or toothpick to serve, you must bring these items
* You can warm your dish in the oven or microwave, but do not plan to cook your dish at the host’s home

Space is limited to 24 people: Sign up early by emailing Jack Hagler with the name(s) and email address of who will be attending. WH Wino wine tastings book to capacity quickly.

Residents of Winnetka Heights Historic District and their guest will be given first priority. Non-WHHD residents will be placed on a wait list and accommodated if space allows.

If you have any questions, email Jack or call directly at 817.946.8609. We look forward to seeing you at Jack and Carol’s home on June 24!

Cast your vote at the Annual Membership Meeting on June 20

Tuesday, June 20
Enjoy complimentary wine and live music starting at 6:30 p.m. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.
Turner House, 401 North Rosemont Ave.

Mark your calendars for next month’s Annual Membership meeting, where we will elect new association officers, plus vote on amending and updating the WHNA bylaws. Students from La Rondalla, the non-profit instructional guitar studio in our neighborhood, will be serenading us during the welcome time, from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Be sure to come cast your vote for the new association officers. The WHNA Nominating Committee has nominated the following individuals to be the officers during the 2017-2018 term:
President — Patrick Lynch
Vice President — Anne Hagan
Treasurer — Candace Bossay
Secretary/Historian — Emily Ruth Cannon

In addition to electing new officers, you’ll also have the chance to vote on amending and updating the WHNA bylaws. Download the proposed changes.

If you’re a resident of Winnetka Heights, you’re automatically a member of the neighborhood association, and your vote is very important. We hope to see you there!

Put a bow on Springtime with a WH Winos premium tasting in May

WH Winos Premium Tasting
Saturday, May 20
Meet and greet begins at 7 p.m. and the official tasting starts promptly at 7:30 p.m.

The next gathering of the Winnetka Heights Winos will be a reserve and estate wine tasting hosted by Candace and Steve Bossay on Saturday, May 20. Please bring a wine that is labeled reserve or estate (or the equivalent), so we can expand our palates with wines that are bit out of the ordinary.

Reserve wine is a higher quality of wine, an aged wine, or both. Traditionally, winemakers would reserve some of their best wine, rather than sell it immediately, coining the term.

Estate wine is 100% made from grapes grown on land owned, or controlled, by the winery. Since many wineries source some of their grapes from other growers, many vineyards grow grapes precisely for this purpose. It can be a tough standard to meet.

Here’s how it works: each individual, couple or pair of neighbors brings a bottle of wine and a bite to eat that complements their wine. As the night progresses, everyone will introduce themselves, their wine and their food. We’ll eat and drink one wine and one food item at a time until we’re all full and happy!

What type of wine? For this tasting, we’d like guests to bring a wine that is labeled reserve, estate, or the equivalent. Winos range from novice to aficionado wine drinkers. There is absolutely no snobbery. On any given night, there’s a wide range of wines including whites, reds, sparkling wines and dessert wines. Wine glasses are provided at the event, however, feel free to bring your own special tasting glass(es) since this is a premium tasting.

What type of food? Whatever you like. While some people take the opportunity to flex their kitchen skills, it’s perfectly fine to bring something simply-prepared or even store-bought. Don’t let the cooking keep you away. Just have fun with it!

Here are some tips:
* Bring enough food for at least 24 tastes
* If your food requires a utensil, plate or toothpick to serve, you must bring these items
* You can warm your dish in the oven or microwave, but do not plan to cook your dish at the host’s home

Space is limited to 24 people, so be sure to sign up early by emailing Jack.P.Hagler@iCloud.com  with the name(s) and email address of who will be attending. If you know what varietal of wine you will be bringing, include that in your email.

Residents of Winnetka Heights Historic District and their guest will be given first priority. Non-WHHD residents will be placed on a wait list and accommodated if space allows.

If you have any questions, email Jack or call him directly at 817.946.8609. We look forward to seeing you on February 18!

Thank you Candace and Steve for hosting!
