This city ordinance details the “rules” of owning a home in Winnetka Heights Historic District, including the necessity to get a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior modifications.

  • Certificate of Appropriateness

As a historic district homeowner, you are required to submit a Certificate of Appropriateness to the city if you want to make improvements (even small ones) to the exterior of your home.

Social Events

  • Join your neighbors on the first Thursday of every month (except December) from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at a local restaurant or bar for happy hour. Check the calendar to find the next happy hour location.

  • Help build or walk alongside our float in the annual Oak Cliff Mardi Gras Parade next winter and let the good times roll! Submit your name as a volunteer here.

  • Join us for a spring fundraiser in the neighborhood. Often “Heights Around the World” or “Bites in the Heights,” the spring fundraiser always brings the food and the fun. Watch the calendar to see when the event is announced and buy your tickets.

  • Bring your kids to this summertime day of fun on the Turner House lawn. Check the calendar to see when this year’s event is announced.

  • Held each October, this family-friendly event helps neighbors and local law enforcement get better acquainted so we can help protect each other. Watch the calendar to get more information.

  • Our progressive, adults-only Halloween costume party is always a scream. Enjoy snacks and drinks at three neighborhood haunts. Check the calendar for the event announcement and to buy tickets.

  • Our biggest fundraiser of the year, December’s Holiday Home Tour offers a rare chance to see the inside of your neighbors’ homes. Check the Home Tour page to learn more and buy your tickets. The free after-party is for neighbors only and does not require tickets.

Neighborhood Programs

  • The North Oak Cliff United Police Patrol is a community-based organization providing eligible subscribers in member neighborhoods with heightened police patrols by off-duty Dallas police officers. Learn more.

  • Since 2011, Walkable Winnetka has repaired more than 7,000 linear feet of sidewalk. Here’s how it works: the City provides an estimate for the repairs; if you accept the estimate, the City will pay for part of the cost (50% for front sidewalks and 75% for sides on corner lots), Walkable Winnetka pays for 75% of the remainder (max. $700), and you pay the outstanding balance.
