202 S Winnetka Ave
A testament to the power of renovation and the joy of creating personalized living space, this charming Winnetka Heights home has undergone a remarkable transformation since the family moved in in 2013.
"We tore off the back portion of the home and added two bathrooms and three bedrooms," the homeowners explain. Originally built in 1925 as a duplex, the home's new layout now includes additional work-from-home spaces, perfect for modern living.
In the office, don’t miss the sword in the window – a Japanese sergeant’s sword taken by the owner’s grandfather during the liberation of Guam in World War II. The sword hanging by the door was purchased at Mont St. Michel in France. Another treasured piece, the dining room table was built by Oak Cliff-based JD Tree’s Service. “Greg, the owner of JD Tree’s, has a passion for tree recycling, so when Greg drove past an oak that fell in a thunderstorm near the Kessler steps, he had to rescue it.” The team salvaged several large wood slabs from that broken oak, and the homeowners worked with Greg to create a large, countertop height table from the slabs. The broken oak tree became a beautiful oak table, now a focal point for their many guests, where all are welcome at the table.
