300 S Edgefield Ave
“Our house tells a story about us — our African roots, love of food, and dedication to education and our faith”
Built in 1912, the home saw the addition of its wraparound porch in 2010 and underwent a more major renovation in 2011, although the original pine floors in the foyer, living room and dining room remain. In their three years here, the owners have made many cosmetic changes to the house, including changing the wall paint to bold paints and wallpaper and adding a large walk-in pantry. A 6-foot metal etching of their wedding vows takes center stage in the TV room, while a 15-foot bookshelf houses over 200 cookbooks in the dining room.
Nothing snags the attention of a historic homeowner quite like a garage. “We have been in Winnetka Heights for six years,” shares the homeowners, “but three years ago, we moved four houses down our street into our current house.” After eyeing homes in the neighborhood that had a garage and garage apartment, they were quick to spot the for-sale sign in front of 300 S. Edgefield and immediately put in an offer.
